Marvel Studios just released their latest Avengers: Endgame trailer and it appears to tease a character similar to Kate Bishop, a woman who takes up the mantle of Hawkeye.
At around the :45 second mark, there’s a brief sequence of Clint Barton’s Hawkeye training a young girl with the bow and arrow. She fires the bow and hits the bullseye. After hitting paydirt, Hawkeye congratulates her with a big high five. In the background you can see a figure sitting at what looks to be a picnic table.
It’s possible this might not be Kate Bishop, but actually one of Hawkeye’s daughters. We know he has three children with his wife Laura Barton. Those children are named Cooper, Lila, and Nathaniel. It’s possible this could be Lila.
This little clip could confirm that Marvel is working on a Hawkeye solo film. Last June, a rumor began swirling that Marvel was working on a Hawkeye solo film that would not include Jeremy Renner. It’s quite possible Renner’s Barton might not make it past Avengers: Endgame and this small clip is already setting the stage for a new character to take up the mantle of Hawkeye.
It would backup Kevin Feige’s statements from last June where he noted that the Marvel Cinematic Universe would introduce “different incarnations of characters” we already know as well as introducing “completely new characters you never heard of before unless you’re a comic fans.” Kate Bishop fits both of those descriptions.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Marvel turns Kate Bishop’s character into Hawkeye’s daughter. Kate Bishop is a relatively new character in the comics. She was created by Allan Heinberg and artist Jim Cheung and first appeared in Young Avengers #1 in 2005.
Kate was the daughter of Derek Bishop, an extremely wealthy publishing executive that afforded Kate a life of luxury. However, she would become a social advocate and perform charity work. Bishop decides to become a hero after she is attacked one night in Central Park with the heavy insinuation that she’s sexually assaulted. She dedicates her life to training in archery, fencing, sword fighting, self-defense, and other forms of combat.
She would eventually join the Young Avengers and bankroll the team after she helped the Young Avengers take down a number of gunmen who crashed her sister’s wedding.
She would eventually raid the Avengers’ supply closet to create her uniform. She would use Mockingbird’s Battle Staves and mask, Swordsman’s sword, Black Widow’s utility belt, and Hawkeye’s bow.
Captain America would even approve of her use of Hawkeye granting her permission to use the moniker.
Do you think Marvel might introduce a version of Kate Bishop as Hawkeye’s daughter? Do you think this could be Kate Bishop and Hawkeye is training her?
