Red Skull and The Walking Dead actor Ross Marquand Discusses Possible Avengers 4 Appearance

On last night’s The Talking Dead, The Walking Dead and Red Skull actor Ross Marquand discussed the possibility of fans seeing him reprise his role as the Red Skull in Avengers 4.

Marquand both shocked and suprised many fans when he appeared as the Red Skull in [easyazon_link identifier=”B07CLGV76S” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Avengers: Infinity War[/easyazon_link]. Since his appearance fans have wondered if we could expect to see more of the Hydra commander in Avengers 4. Sitting with The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman.

Marquand discussed the possibility with The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman. Kirkman asked Marquand what many had been wondering, would he reprise his role as the Red Skull?

Ross Marquand was blunt, “I don’t know. I can’t answer that question. I really don’t know.”

The lack of clarification isn’t surprising at all. If there is one thing that Marvel Studios is good at, it’s keeping a secret. So it was doubtful that Ross Marquand would let slip any possible role he might have in the next Avengers film.

Marquand spoke about the secrecy of the Avengers film and specifically his role as Red Skull in Avengers: Infinity War with EW this past May.

“I didn’t tell anybody. These NDAs on these things are no joke! I literally did not tell anybody until it was out.”

However, Marquand elaborated that he did let his date to the premiere in on the secret:

“I told my friend who I brought to the premiere because she had to know how I got tickets, and I said, ‘I can’t tell you who I’m playing, but I can tell you I am a part of this. But you can’t tell anyone.’ It was just a few days before the premiere, and I said, ‘Would you like to come?’ She said, ‘Of course,’ and I said ‘But you cannot tell anybody I am a part of this. I haven’t even told my parents. I’ve told no one.'”

And while Marquand has experienced how secretive Marvel Studios can be, he’s not a stranger to keeping a secret as AMC’s The Walking Dead has their own way of keeping things close to the chest.

“Like with The Walking Dead, I think I was silent for seven months before I told anyone about that. With this, it was about six months. And it’s tough because you’re so excited to tell everyone about these amazing worlds that you’re about to become a part of, but you can’t tell anybody.”

While Marquand definitely revealed he knows how to keep a secret, unlike some other Marvel stars **cough** Mark Ruffalo and Tom Holland **cough**, he also talked about what it was like to take on the role of Red Skull and following in the footsteps of Hugo Weaving, who portrayed the character in [easyazon_link identifier=”B078Z3MFV4″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Captain America: The First Avenger[/easyazon_link].

“The biggest thing that Marvel wanted to do was come as close to the iconic role that Hugo Weaving portrayed seven years ago and pay homage to it while also giving it a new flavor. Once Red Skull touched the Tesseract, he goes into this intergalactic astral plane for 70 years. And as the Russo brothers pointed out to me — because I was trying to do a straight voice match to Hugo’s performance — they said, ‘You know, he’s been by himself essentially in this intergalactic prison of his own making for 70 years. He’s going to sound a little different. We want him to have this kind of ethereal almost ghost-like quality to his voice, so please try that.'”

He even noted they compared Red Skull to Yoda.

“I think the reference they might have given is Yoda-esque. His ambition has brought him this great pain, but also this great wisdom, and I think that’s what I tried to imbue that performance with.”

What do you think? Could we see Red Skull again when Avengers 4 makes it way to theaters this upcoming Spring? And what do you think really happened to those heroes who fell to Thanos’s finger snap? Let me know in the comments below!
