At this point, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is so thoroughly-damaged as both a creative endeavor and a marketing brand that even the combined healing factors of the film’s central duo would have trouble trying to repair it to a working state, but according to X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn, the upcoming Deadpool 3 is looking to make this positive change a reality.

Vaughn, whose directorial body of work also includes the Kick-Ass, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and the thus far trilogy of Kingsman films, expressed his optimism towards Marvel’s upcoming mutant team-up during a January 2024 appearance on the BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast.
Per a recap of his guest spot provided by the news outlet – as of writing, the episode has yet to be released – amidst a larger discussion of his upcoming film Argylle, the director was at at one point turned to the topic of Deadpool 3, to which he responded by beaming, “The few snippets that I know about Deadpool vs. Wolverine — or Wolverine vs. Deadpool, I’m sure that argument between Ryan and Hugh is happening as we speak — are unbelievable.”
“That’s going to be the jolt,” Vaughn added. “The Marvel universe is about to have a jolt of them and it’s going to bring that body back to life.”
Drawing his praise of the Merc With A Mouth’s next adventure to a close, the director ultimately opined, “I think Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are about to save the whole Marvel universe.”

Set to release on July 26th, official details regarding Deadpool 3‘s plot and cast – outside of its inclusion of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and its taking place across the wider Marvel multiverse – currently remain scarce.
According to an official logline for the film released by Marvel Studios Japan, the threequel will see “The irresponsible hero Deadpool will change the history of the MCU with Wolverine!?”
However, thanks to a number of set photo leaks and alleged insider scoops, fans have been able to glean that the MCU’s first proper mutant outing since gaining their film rights back from Fox in 2019 will involve not only the X-franchises two most popular heroes, but also Loki‘s Time Variance Authority, the X-Men (2000) versions of Toad and Sabretooth, a Fantasticar and even Dogpool.
Suffice to say, with all this effort being put towards its fanservice and lore-related deep cuts, it appears Marvel is going all in on the Merc With A Mouth being their Multiversal box office messiah.
Whether or not this bet will actually result in a revival of the MCU or be the final nail in its coffin will ultimately be determined when the film body-slides by two into theaters on July 26th.
Meanwhile, Vaughn’s aforementioned spy thriller Argylle is set to sneak its way into theaters on February 2nd.
