Superman (the ex-Superman: Legacy) is set as the first major feature of James Gunn’s DCU, but will not be the beginning of the shared universe. That designation goes to Creature Commandos which is dropping on Max at the end of the year.
The series is animated but the characters and actors will appear in other works across DCU media as part of Gunn’s plan to interconnect the events and the players more than any other shared universe going today.
It was hinted at the Annecy Film Festival, per Nexus Point News, that the crossover appearances will begin as soon as 2025 in Superman. Which of the Commandos could pop up or how many is not known, but the film is only the second show some of them will be in.
Rick Flag, Sr., played by Frank Grillo, will report for duty in Peacemaker Season Two to settle “unfinished business” with Christopher Smith (John Cena), according to Cinema Blend. “Bad blood” between them is promised owing to Smith killing his son, although it’s uncertain if Flag will be the main antagonist.
Peacemaker’s second season is in production and will reportedly conduct principal photography through December. Its debut isn’t expected to conflict with Superman’s release window, though that might indicate it won’t premiere on Max until 2026.
Meanwhile, back at Annecy, Warner Bros. Animation presented more details about the Commandos series including character design, storyboarded scenes, and subplots.
Nexus Point’s notes describe the series as “dark, humorous but never goofy and unsentimental, adult-themed show with political storylines.” Characters are hand drawn and 2D and, par for the course, none of them like each other.

Frankenstein is categorized as lovestruck and, like James Bond, has an array of beach and formal attire for all kinds of occasions, which means there will be missions in diverse locales and circumstances.
His mate, The Bride, reportedly breaks from the comics and brandishes fewer arms than she is known for, going from four to just the standard two. Other characters will be truer to form, such as GI Robot (voiced by Sean Gunn) whose motivation begins and ends with killing Nazis.
Like Peacemaker, there is a desire on DC Studios’ part for more seasons of the Commandos, and to add notable names like Medusa to the team. Gunn heads the studio so this stands to reason, and will likely come to fruition.
