In promotion of the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+, actor Ewan McGregor provided a very detailed description of the state of his character at the beginning of the show.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, McGregor said, “We find Obi-Wan at the beginning of our story rather broken, and faithless, and beaten, somewhat given up.”

If you recall from Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, Kenobi takes it upon himself to take Luke Skywalker to his Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru. He tells Yoda, “I will take the child and watch over him.”

As he is about to depart, Yoda also assigns him the task of training under Master Qui-Gon Jinn.

Yoda says, “In your solitude on Tatooine, training I have for you. An old friend has learned the path to immortality. One who has returned from the netherworld of the Force. Your old master. How to commune with him I will teach you.”

But even before this, when he first confronts Anakin on Mustafar, Kenobi makes it very clear that he is not faithless, broken, or beaten down.

Kenobi tells Anakin, “You have allowed this Dark Lord to twist your mind until now you have become the very thing you swore to destroy.”

When Anakin tells him, “If you are not with me then you are my enemy,” Kenobi replies, “Only a Sith deals in absolutes.” He then pulls his lightsaber from its holster and says, “I will do what I must.”

As their battle progresses, Kenobi makes it clear he is not faithless. He does not reject the Jedi Order. He tells Anakin, “I have failed you, Anakin. I have failed you.”

He then tells him, “Anakin, Chancellor Palpatine is evil.” When Anakin responds saying, “From my point of view the Jedi are evil,” Kenobi responds, “Well, then you are lost.”

After defeating Anakin in combat, Kenobi then tells him, “You were the chosen one. It was said that you would destroy the Sith, not join them. Bring balance to the Force, not leave it in darkness.”

“You were my brother, Anakin. I loved you,” he told him.

While this comment is simply that, it is not a good sign for the show given what Lucasfilm and Star Wars has done and continues to do to Luke Skywalker starting with The Last Jedi and continuing in their latest series, The Book of Boba Fett.

They have made it abundantly clear they don’t understand the character of Luke Skywalker, and now it does appear they don’t understand the character of Obi-Wan Kenobi as well.

On top of this comment from McGregor, Entertainment Weekly also confirmed a number of rumors surrounding the show. They revealed a first look at Moses Ingram’s Inquisitor Reva.

They explain the character “will prove a formidable new foe as she seeks out Jedi-in-hiding for the Empire.”

Ingram would also confirm the presence of the Grand Inquisitor explaining that her character, the Grand Inquisitor and Darth Vader “share a common dark-side goal.”

One image also shows Reva facing off against Joel Edgerton’s Uncle Owen.

Finally, EW revealed that McGregor indeed will be travelling off planet specifically to a new planet called Daiyu.

The series’ writer Joby Harold says the planet “sort of has a Hong Kong feel to it.” He added, “It’s got a graffiti-ridden nightlife, and is kind of edgy. It’s just got a different lane and a different feeling.”

Much of this was teased in a recent plot leak from Making Star Wars that claims the series sees Reva alongside a number of other Inquisitors and the Grand Inquisitor arriving on Tatooine to track down a Jedi named Nari, who is seeking out Kenobi to rebuild the Jedi Order.

In fact, the alleged leak claims Reva goes on a tear on Tatooine maiming a number of individuals with one such instance being witnessed by Uncle Owen who believes the Inquisitors have arrived on Tatooine to locate Kenobi. In fact, he believes Kenobi’s presence has put Luke at risk.

Making Star Wars would go on to detail that this idea of Luke being in danger is what motivates Kenobi to leave Tatooine that and the Inquisitors have allegedly set a trap where they have kidnapped Princess Leia in an attempt to lure out any Jedi.

Leia is reportedly taken to a planet that Making Star Wars described as “Reno if it were a Star Wars planet.” That description appears to match up with Daiyu.
