Game of Thrones Prediction: The Case for Sansa Stark to Rule Westeros

“I see a darkness in you, and in that darkness, eyes staring back at me. Brown eyes, blue eyes, green eyes, eyes you’ll shut forever. We will meet again.”

Throughout Game of Thrones, viewers have seen plot twists upon plot twists. The latest one is Arya killing the Night King and seemingly fulfilling the “Prince that was Promised” prophecy. Over the course of the eight seasons, we have seen many characters step into the role of the “Promised One” from Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen to long-dead Stannis Baratheon.

In a move no one saw coming, not even the White Walkers she had to sprint past, Arya Stark killed the Night King and is now the “Prince that was Promised”, the reincarnated Azor Ahai, a legendary Westerosi hero who defeated the White Walkers 11,000 years ago.

While the “Prince that was Promised” prophecy didn’t necessarily follow all of the clues laid out over the seasons, one prophecy did: Melisandre’s to Arya. In Season 3, before Arya’s transformation into a cold-blooded assassin, Melisandre knows that she will kill people, telling her, “I see a darkness in you, and in that darkness, eyes staring back at me. Brown eyes, blue eyes, green eyes, eyes you’ll shut forever. We will meet again.”

Arya shut brown eyes when she killed Walder Frey and she shut blue eyes when she killed the White Walkers, but green eyes are still to come.

While the most popular answer is that Arya will kill Cersei, that death belongs to Daenerys after the capture and murder of her beloved advisor Missandei.

The look we see at the end of Episode 4 is one of pure anger. Notice the green eyes.

Daenerys

My theory is that Daenerys will take her revenge and kill Cersei, possibly going mad like her father in the process. Thus, Arya will be forced to take a stand and kill Daenerys to protect the Seven Kingdoms, finally fulfilling her own prophecy by killing someone with green eyes.

But after Daenerys who is going to rule? Arya “isn’t a lady” and will likely refuse the throne and Jon has stated before that he doesn’t want it either. Sansa will be the only right choice standing. She is a wise and knowledgeable leader in times of war and a kind Lady of Winterfell to her people. Daenerys rebuked her advice and got one of her dragons and part of her army killed for it. Sansa clearly knows what she’s doing and can lead a kingdom during crisis.

In the end, Sansa is the only one who is able, willing and would be welcome on the throne. We’ll have to tune in next week to see how right we are.
