The Game Awards 2021 have been and gone, and we’ve summarized all of the nominees and winners from the event.

Produced and hosted by game journalist Geoff Keighley, the show was born after Spike dropped support for the Spike Video Game Awards in 2014.

Keighley took up the reigns there after, and December 9th marked the eighth ceremony of The Game Awards.

The nominees are chosen by a jury of 103 “leading media and influencer outlets,” with a winner chosen by 90% of their vote, and 10% of public votes. The awards drew ire earlier this week, as Activision Blizzard President Rob Kostich’s seat on The Game Awards’ advisory board, coupled with the company’s sexual harassment and discrimination lawsuit.

While initially stating “We have to think very carefully about how to proceed here” in an interview, Keighley later tweeted “Beyond its nominations, I can confirm that Activision Blizzard will not be a part of this year’s #TheGameAwards.”

Before the show even began, there were some interesting nominees. Deathloop had eight nominations- ten if you include two voice actors up for Best Performance, but ultimately won two. Other highly nominated games included It Takes Two, Psychonauts 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Resident Evil Village, and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

Publishers with a high number of nominees included EA, Nintendo, Xbox Game Studios, Sony Interactive Entertainment, Capcom, Square Enix, and Ubisoft. Devolver Digital also dominated the Best Indie category.

Reddit’s r/gaming vote for Game of the Year was Resident Evil Village, but the winner of Game of the Year was It Takes Two. The game has recently had issues with its name being issued a trademark claim by Take-Two Interactive. Eurogamer reports Hazelight have abandoned the game’s name, though the case is still ongoing.

There were also some intriguing winners. Resident Evil 4 VR won best VR / AR Game, despite controversy surrounding the game being censored “for modern audiences.”

Elden Ring was also winner of the most anticipated game for the second year running. Another curiosity was the Games for Impact award coming during pre-show; a possible sign that the category is not as popular as it once was.

Without any further ado, here is the full list of nominees and winners from The Game Awards 2021.
