Dwayne Johnson showed off the work he has put into training for his lead role in Black Adam and teased things are “about to change” within the DC Universe.
The action star and WWE wrestler posted images to Instagram of himself in the gym hitting weights heavier than most people. See below.
He wrote that DC’s “hierarchy of power” will change and did a play on Superman’s old “Truth, Justice, and the American way” motto:
“The hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change. Training and prep for Black Adam has been a grind but this passion project outweighs the sacrifices. Truth, justice and the Black Adam way.”
He posted a follow-up:
“Same game, different levels. Same hell, different devils. Training for Black Adam, where the devils may change, but hell still stays the same.”
He then confirmed that Black Adam begins shooting this summer.
Johnson is an admitted Superman fan. He and Man of Steel actor Henry Cavill also know each other and share the same management.
“It all changed for me when I was 10yrs old and was first introduced to the greatest superhero of all time – SUPERMAN,” Johnson said when Black Adam’s release date was announced. “As a kid, Superman was the hero I always wanted to be.”
But The Rock will take little shots at Superman every now and then. He boasts Black Adam and Superman have the same powers frequently and says Adam will do what’s right but won’t toe the line. He does things his way.
“But, a few years into my fantasy, I realized that Superman was the hero, I could never be…” Johnson said, adding he himself was a little rebellious.
Cavill is holding onto the cape for now and lobbying to tell more Superman stories. He could get recast, however, if Warner Bros. and J.J. Abrams move on without him.
We likely won’t see Black Adam trade punches with Shazam before Zachary Levi’s third movie so the all-powerful ruler of Kahndaq will slug it out with Hawkman and the Justice Society plus, according to rumors, his first wife Shiruta.
Production on Black Adam begins this summer for a Dec. 2021 release.
