As if there weren’t already more than enough in the wild for Godzilla vs. Kong, the film’s official novelization has provided eager fans with yet another new synopsis of the upcoming kaiju showdown.

This latest summary was revealed by Kaiju News Outlet, who shared screenshots of the novelization’s tentative cover and the new more succinct synopsis, which declares that “Humanity fights for its future as Godzilla and Kong embark on a path of destruction that will see the most two powerful forces of nature on the planet collide in an all-out war!”
This synopsis truly does capture the essence of a kaiju film and teases everything audiences could want out of a monster-sized action flick, including war, destruction, a clash of Titans, and a fight for humanity’s very survival.

Unfortunately, this brief, one-sentence summary provided no new details on the film’s plot, though considering the lack of information present in Godzilla vs Kong’s official synopsis, this is far from surprising.
“In a new world where man and monster now coexist, Monarch must lead the way to a prosperous future alongside the Titans, keeping humanity in check,” it reads. “However, rival factions that want to manipulate the Titans for war begin to rise under the guise of a nefarious conspiracy, threatening to wipe out all life on the planet. Meanwhile, on Skull Island, strange seismic activity draws the attention of Godzilla and Kong alike.”

Sadly, from this, all fans can do is speculate that humans have possibly reentered into their symbiotic relationship with the Titans, Monarch might encounter a rival entity, and that something is happening underneath Skull Island.
It’s also possible that the “seismic activity” detected underneath Skull Island relates to Kong’s removal from his isolated home environment. So far, the front frunners for the identity of Kong’s captors are the US goverment and Apex, a rumored rogue organization that will likely serve as Monarch’s above-mentioned rival.

Fans recently had their fingers crossed that CCXP would see the premiere of the film’s first trailer, as the Godzilla vs Kong is only six months away from its slated release date, but unfortunately the South American expo came and went without even a hint as to the trailer’s premiere schedule.
Sadly, fans were left wanting for just the tiniest of glimpses at Legendary’s tentpole picture, instead being treated to brief clips showing Kong’s imprisonment.
While some are hoping that a trailer will be attached to the Christmas Day release of Wonder Woman 1984, it’s may be an important time to remind fans to temper their expectations. After all, 2020 has been a year full of disappointments, and not just for giant monster fans.
Godzilla vs Kong is out May 21st in theaters and on HBO Max, while Greg Keyes’ novelization releases on May 25th.
