Rumor: Marvel Developing Live-Action X-Men Series With Heavy Focus On Social Issues

Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige are rumored to be developing an X-Men series with a heavy focus on social issues.

There have been plenty of rumors recently detailing Marvel’s plans for introducing the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but we hadn’t really gotten wind that an actual X-Men series or movie was in development.

No mention of the X-Men was made during Kevin Feige’s Disney Investor Day 2020 presentation, instead he formally announced the Fantastic Four film was happened.

However, a recent rumor claims an X-Men series is in development for Disney+ and it has been jump started because Disney+ subscribers are showing their support for the old 90s X-Men animated series.

The rumor comes from WDW Pro at Pirates and Princesses, where WDW Pro claims, “The rumor is that Disney execs were caught off guard with the Disney+ viewership for the old 90’s X-Men animated series, and they are considering / developing a live action series with a huge budget that aims for a similar vibe.”

WDW Pro goes on to claim that this X-Men show might have even a bigger budget than The Mandalorian.

Aside from going for a similar vibe to the 90s animated X-Men series, WDW Pro did reveal Marvel is planning for the show to have a “heavy emphasis on social issues.”

The scooper didn’t have much else to provide, but did indicate “this one is in the very early stages.”

WDW Pro added, “We want to get the info out there, but as of now we don’t even know with specificity who is involved.”

As previously mentioned there are rumors to incorporate the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

One of the more recent ones comes from Mikey Sutton at Geekosity Mag, where he claims the X-Men will arrive as early as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse Madness.

Sutton explains, “There are discussions to feature cameos by members of the first X-Men cast, basically a fond farewell to the past as the MCU proceeds to the future with rebooted mutants of their own.”

A previous scoop from Sutton detailed the studio was looking at casting Legion actor Dan Stevens as Magneto.

That scoop came after Small Screen detailed Marvel Studios was looking at Stevens for an unknown villain role. Sutton would take their scoop a step further claiming, “According to my sources, Stevens is being looked at for the new Magneto, this time fitting within the MCU, rebooted for what is also being planned to be a new cast for the X-Men.”

However, Sutton did hedge his bets noting that “Magneto is just one character that Stevens is being thought of for.”

That’s not unheard of as even Tom Hiddleston first auditioned for the role of Thor before Marvel cast him as Loki.

Other rumors surrounding the X-Men detail that they will arrive piecemeal into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Back in July, Sutton scooped to YouTube channel Everything Always that Beast would arrive on the unannounced S.W.O.R.D. TV series that was recently revealed to be the Secret Invasion series by Kevin Feige at the Disney Investor Day 2020 presentation.

Everything Always reported on Sutton’s scoop stating, “For the moment, S.W.O.R.D., or Agents of S.W.O.R.D, they haven’t decided the title yet, is looking to be where the Beast, in all his furry glory, will make his furry debut. And it will be a regular hotspot for other mutants and cosmic heroes that Marvel Studios looks to introduce and test to the general public.”

It’s possible that the Secret Invasion show might not actually be the Skrulls invading Earth, as that storyline is quite similar to what we saw H.Y.D.R.A. do in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but rather could involve the arrival of the X-Men.

It could be fun to see the Age of Apocalypse already exist within the Multiverse and the mutants from that world under the leadership of Apocalypse attempt to infiltrate and eventually take over the main Earth of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

What do you make of this rumor? Are you interested in seeing the X-Men return to live action under Marvel Studios?
