First Trailer For Predator Film ‘Prey’ Teases Comanche Girl To Face Off With A Predator, Plot Synopsis Sounds Terrible

Source: Prey

Disney and 20th Century Studios released their first teaser trailer and plot synopsis for the upcoming Predator film titled ‘Prey.’

As you can see below, the teaser trailer sees a young girl running through the woods before she enters into a prairie and is dragged down into the tall grass by a fellow Comanche who aims his bow.

While aiming his bow, a Predator’s laser sights show up on the archer’s forehead. The young girl then shows a look of fear as she looks at the young archer, who is now off screen.

The trailer then transitions to showing the girl holding a tomahawk in her hand as she raised up behind a fallen log and stares at the camera. The scene then cuts to the film’s title.

Accompanying this teaser trailer, 20th Century Studios provided a pretty significant plot synopsis for the story.

It begins, “Set in the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, “Prey” is the story of a young woman, Naru, a fierce and highly skilled warrior. She has been raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains, so when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people.”

“The prey she stalks, and ultimately confronts, turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal, resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries,” it concludes.

The whole premise is laughable. Does anyone actually think a Comanche warrior armed with a tomahawk and a bow and arrow stands a chance against a “highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal?”

One way this premise could work is if you turn it into a sadistic slasher film and the Predator channels any number of sadistic psychopaths killing off the girl’s Comanche tribe one by one before leaving her for last.

Another is if the Predator isn’t actually hunting Naru, but is hunting some other challenge like the Aliens in Aliens v. Predator. If they want to really embrace the science fiction they could invent some kind of Jurassic Park level hybrid monster that roams the Great Plains that the Predator is there to hunt. Even then that’s a stretch.

Alongside the premise, 20th Century Studios also notes, “The filmmakers were committed to creating a film that provides an accurate portrayal of the Comanche and brings a level of authenticity that rings true to its Indigenous peoples.”

Because getting slaughtered by a Predator is an “accurate portrayal.”

The film is directed by Dan Trachtenberg based of a script written by Patrick Aison. It is produced by John Davis and Jhane Myers. Lawrence Gordon, Marty Ewing, James E. Thomas, John C. Thomas, and Marc Toberoff are executive producers.

The film stars Amber Midthunder, Dakota Beavers, Stormee Kipp, Michelle Thrush, and Julian Black Antelope.

It arrives exclusively on Hulu on August 5, 2022.
