The latest rumor over Metal Gear come from sources speaking to VGC, despite the source insisting the stealth action series wouldn’t be involved. The outlet reported that Konami’s plans for Tokyo Game Show 2022 include a 45-minute presentation titled “Konami new release announced.”

“Voice actor Yuji Kaji will be invited as a guest to represent the fans of a series which is loved all over the world, on the announcement stage for a new Konami title,” the Japanese developer stated as per VGC’s translation. As he is representing fans, it may not mean the announcement is related to the lengthy list of anime and video games he has voiced in.

A “publishing source” speaking to VGC claimed the announcement would in fact be a smaller project, rather than the rumored revivals of classic Konami IP — those being Castlevania, Silent Hill, and Metal Gear. This is despite the fact VGC had also reported that Virtuos was working on a possible remaster of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

While that source refuted the claim, another claimed Konami was working on a Metal Gear project. @AestheticGamer1 ” was a frequent source of Resident Evil leaks.

They preempted the announcement and some details of Resident Evil Village, along with the Resident Evil 4 remake’s announcement and alleged development woes. @AestheticGamer1 also has connections within Konami, it seems, and has furthered claims about the alleged new Silent Hill game and reported remake of Silent Hill 2.

“Alright, VGC seemed to have shared it, so I’ll talk about it,” @AestheticGamer1 began. “VGC talks about Metal Gear Solid 1-3 Remasters (not remakes), new remastered version.”

“I know that to be 100% true, I had heard that for a fact (and not surprised I’m not the only one who heard about it), I’ve had it from an 100% source and not,” the leaker insists. “The plan is to release the three remasters seperately [sic], but also together as a collection (where also get the MSX versions of Metal Gear 1+2 if buy together). Just chiming in there, that is something coming.”

Speaking to others, @AestheticGamer1 said the games would be coming to “Pretty much everything,” including PC and next-gen consoles. VGC’s source and @AestheticGamer1 don’t necessarily exclude one another — as if these remasters are in development, they may not be announced at Tokyo Game Show.

Konami may have some difficulty getting fans on board however, due to the explosive fallout between them and Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima in 2015. While Kojima is unlikely to have any rights over the IP, fans may reject Konami’s attempt to rekindle the Metal Gear franchise without his involvement.
