The real star of Joker 2 might not be who we expected according to a new rumor, if it’s anything to go on about a film that is still kind of a mystery.

Things that have come out prior about the sequel dubbed “Folie á Deux,” such as the idea it’s a musical, make it sound chaotic and bloodier than the last one. However, the one thing they may have us fooled on is whose perspective this movie is told from.

A source close to The Weekly Planet, whom host James Clement says is very reliable conveyed to him that the film “isn’t so much a Joker movie.”

“Apparently, Joker 2 isn’t so much a Joker movie, it’s a Harley Quinn…” Clement said. “It’s from Harley Quinn’s perspective. And the reason it’s a musical is because that’s how she perceives her relationship with Joker.”

When his co-host Nick Mason queried, “Ah, like a romantic musical?” Clement replied, “Exactly,” which confirms to a degree much of what we’ve been hearing and sharing with you.

So then, if Joker: Folie á Deux is really a musical, Todd Phillips is doing everything he can to play to Lady Gaga’s strengths, and maybe set her up for her own Oscar win here as he did for Joaquin Phoenix.

Much like Joker was a tenebrous character study of Arthur Fleck, the intel above means we can expect the sequel to explore Harley in the same way.

Then again, the information was featured in a segment called “Hot Scoop or Shot of Poop” which could be a sign to take the rumor with a heavy grain of salt.

Most likely, though, you can safely bet the part about Gaga playing Harley Quinn is true, especially after the teaser she released.

The postmodern pop singer shared a teaser for Joker 2 on social media early in August. In it, silhouettes of her and Phoenix dance against a red background to the tune of Fred Astaire’s “Cheek to Cheek.”

Red and black are the traditional color scheme of Harley’s costume and also note the heart-shaped tattoo on Gaga’s cheek. Based on that, it seems Joker: Folie á Deux evident stars Harley Quinn. Good for her, then, when it hits theaters on October 4, 2024.
