Following the events of The Mandalorian Season 2 finale, a new rumor claims that a Luke Skywalker Star Wars series is in development for Disney+.
The Mandalorian Season 2 finale saw the return of Luke Skywalker as he cut his way through a platoon of Moff Gideon’s Dark Troopers in order to reach Grogu so that he could take him away to train him.
Luke tells Din Djarin, “He is strong with the Force. But talent without training is nothing. I will give my life to protect the child. But he will not be safe until he masters his abilities.”
Din says his farewells and hands Grogu over to Luke, who we assume takes him somewhere to train him as a Jedi.

Following these events, a new rumor from Devin Colson at FandomWire claims that a Luke Skywalker series is in development at Lucasfilm for Disney+.
Colson writes, “FandomWire can exclusively reveal that Lucasfilm and Disney+ are in the early stages of developing a Luke Skywalker series set around the time era of The Mandalorian!”
While Colson claims the series is in development he does stress, “that “In-Development” means teams connected to Lucasfilm are prepping and writing the following projects. It does not guarantee they will all make it to air.”
As for who might play Luke Skywalker in this rumored series, FandomWire claims there are talks to have Mark Hamill reprise his role as he did in The Mandalorian and just de-age him. Hamill is reportedly on board to return to the character.
However, due to the expense of the de-aging technology there are also discussions to recast him. FandomWire claims one of those being considered to play Skywalker would be The Falcon and the Winter Soldier star Sebastian Stan.
This latest rumor follows a separate rumor from back in July that detailed a Luke Skywalker theatrical film might be in the works set around the time frame of The Mandalorian.
That rumor came from YouTuber Doomcock as part of one of the scenarios he heard that Lucasfilm might use to save Star Wars from the disaster of the sequel trilogy.
In the scenario that Doomcock calls “The Big Red Eraser,” Lucasfilm “use the the Veil of the Force to kill Palpatine when he enters the Veil at the end of the Return of the Jedi. Thereby erasing everything that comes after that. The Disney trilogy becomes an alternate timeline and is never referenced again.”
Doomcock’s reference to the Veil of the Force is actually The World Between Worlds shown off in Star Wars Rebels and used by Ezra Bridger to save Ahsoka Tano from death at the hands of Darth Vader.

Doomcock continued, “In addition to this, I’m told they are contemplating a new Luke Skywalker movie set 10 years after The Return of the Jedi. Set in The Mandalorian timeline.”
He went on to state that the film would not be made without Mark Hamill and there was no intention of recasting the role.
He explained, “I’m told that recasting Luke Skywalker thankfully is not an option here. If Mark Hamill wouldn’t do the movie, they’d scrap it and move on to the third option.”
What do you make of this new rumor? Are you interested in seeing a Luke Skywalker series set during the time of The Mandalorian? Would you want to see the character recast or have Lucasfilm continue to de-age Mark Hamill as we saw in The Mandalorian Season 2 finale?
