Amazon Studios Announces More Cast Members For The Lord Of The Rings TV Series

Amazon Studios announced additional cast members for its upcoming The Lord of the Rings television series.

They announced four new cast members that include Charles Edwards, Will Fletcher, Amelie Child Villiers, and Beau Cassidy.

No details on the characters they are playing were revealed.

Charles Edwards

As for their backgrounds, Edwards is known for his role as Martin Charteris on The Crown.

He also played Michael Gregson on Downton Abbey. More recently he can be seen in The Girlfriend Experience as the Father.

Will Fletcher

Will Fletcher is a relative newcomer. In a press release Amazon notes he “trained at RADA then at Bristol Old Vic Theater school before graduating in 2019.”

They add, “He went on to star in The Girl Who Fell at Trafalgar Studios, directed by Hannah Price.”

Finally, he most recently filmed as the lead in the independent film The Road Dance alongside Hermione Corfield.

Amelie Child Villiers

Amelie Child Villiers is a relative newcomer as well at just 13-years-old.

In 2019 she played Nina in the psychological horror film Censor. Most recently she wrapped filming in The Machine where she stars alongside Mark Hamill and Bert Kreischer.

Beau Cassidy

Finally, Beau Cassidy is also a brand new actress. The Lord of the Rings is her first television role. She did previously film a New Zealand-Australian comedy titled Nude Tuesday.

These four new cast members join previously announced cast members that include Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, Tom Budge, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Maxim Baldry, Ian Blackburn, Kip Chapman, Anthony Crum, Maxine Cunliffe, Trystan Gravelle, Sir Lenny Henry, Thusitha Jayasundera, Fabian McCallum, Simon Merrells,​ Geoff Morrell, Peter Mullan, Lloyd Owen, Augustus Prew, Peter Tait, Alex Tarrant, Leon Wadham, Benjamin Walker, Sara Zwangobani, and Daniel Weyman.

The series also recently announced in May that director Charlotte Brändström joined the show alongside J.A. Bayona and Wayne Che Yip.

At the time of her announcement she stated, “I’m very excited to be guided through Middle-earth by J.D.’s and Patrick’s vision and immerse myself in the iconic world of J.R.R. Tolkien. It’s a great privilege to be in New Zealand to work with Amazon Studios’ outstanding ensemble of creative talents.”

According to Amazon, The Lord of the Rings series will bring “to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history.”

They add, “This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.”

“Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth,” says Amazon.

It will take place throughout Middle-earth with Amazon explaining, “From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.”

The first season of the show is expected to be eight episodes in length.

It is showrun and executive produced by J.D. Payne & Patrick McKay. Other executive producers include Lindsey Weber, Callum Greene, J.A. Bayona, Belén Atienza, Justin Doble, Jason Cahill, Gennifer Hutchison, Bruce Richmond and Sharon Tal Yguado.

The series is co-executive produced by Wayne Che Yip. With Christopher Newman serving as a producer.
