As revealed by Variety on March 8th, the latest additions to the cast of Netflix’s One Piece will appear in the upcoming production as a variety of notable supporting and enemy characters from across the original manga’s East Blue Saga, which begins with Luffy’s casting off from Foosha Village on his quest to become Pirate King and ends with the Straw Hat Crew’s confrontation with Smoker and Tashigi in Loguetown.

According to the trade news outlet, new additions to the cast include Vincent Regan (300, Resurrection) as Luffy’s grandfather, Marine Vice Admiral Monkey D. Garp:

Ilia Isorelýs Paulino (The Sex Lives of College Girls) as the Alvida Pirates’ eponymous captain:

Transgender actor Morgan Davies (The End, Evil Dead Rise) as the Alvida-Pirates-slave-turned-eventual-Marine-Captain Koby:

Aidan Scott (Abraham Lincoln (2022)) as the spoiled son of “Axe-Hand” Morgan, Helmeppo:

Jeff Ward (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) as the series’ ever-present, discombobulated antagonist Buggy The Clown:

And McKinley Belcher III (Ozark) as One Piece’s first major villain, the Fishman Pirate Arlong:

Netflix would quickly the confirm casting sharing the castings to Twitter while writing, “the ship is ready to set sail! meet the newest additions to the cast of ONE PIECE.”

These newcomers will join previously announced cast members Iñaki Godoy (Luffy), Mackenyu (Zoro), Emily Rudd (Nami), Jacob Romero Gibson (Usopp) and Taz Skylar (Sanji) to bring the opening chapters of One Piece to life.

An alleged leaked script exclusively provided to Bounding Into Comics in early 2020 suggests that the first episode of the live-action adaptation will closely follow the One Piece anime while also expanding on scenes from Zoro’s past only hinted at in the manga.
