A brand new rumor regarding Amazon’s upcoming The Lord of the Rings television shows claims that Isildur will be one of the main characters in the show.
This rumor comes from Twitter user Fellowship of Fans, who claims, “ISILDUR will be one of the main characters from around episode 3 onwards in the upcoming Amazon ‘Lord of the Rings’ TV series are 6 months of investigation.”
They added, “At last, welcome (partly) to the *late* Second Age.”
In a subsequent tweet they noted, “Isildur’s codename is ‘Cole.’ The character leaked character description is ‘Cole’ (Isildur) – Series Regular, Male (18-22) Caucasian. A young athletic male in his very early 20s, to play around 18. He has the weight of the world on his shoulders, so must feel an old soul.”
In another tweet they added, “Troubled, but mercurial and charismatic. A great role. Appearance: Caucasian.
The Twitter user then speculated that Maxim Baldry is most likely to play Isildur. They wrote, “*Speculation* Looking at the cast Maxim Baldry looks most likely to play Isildur alongside Benjamin Walker and Augustus Pew.”
Finally, in a fourth tweet they added, “In early August, an insta story from Nazain Boniadi which was quickly later deleted, had a crew member wearing a studio given hoodie with the loose translation ‘under the stars… THE FAITHFUL’ This is NOT a coincidence…”
Isildur is a legendary figure in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. In The Silmarillion, Tolkien details that Isildur is the son of Elendil and was a young man during the reckoning of Númenor.
If you are unfamiliar with Númenor, it is the land settled by Men who rejected Morgoth and the darkness and fled West. Guided by the Star of Eärendil they traveled west across the deep sea and eventually arrived in Númenor or Andor, the Land of Gift.
However, the King of Númenor, Ar-Pharazôn, would eventually be swayed by Sauron to worship Melkor or Morgoth, first in private, but later in public. And his people for the most part would join him.
However, Amandil, the councillor of the King and his son, Elendil, and his grandsons Isildur and Anárion refused to do so. While he was eventually dismissed by Ar-Pharazôn at the behest of Sauron, he was not killed. Instead he withdrew to Rómenna.
Isildur’s first legendary action would be to steal piece of fruit from the White Tree, Nimloth the Fair, that was a “memorial of the Eldar and of the light of Valinor.” Sauron had been attempting to get Ar-Pharazôn to chop it down.
But before Ar-Pharazôn did indeed have it chopped down, Isildur snuck into the city of Armenelos and stole a fruit from the tree. After acquiring the fruit, he would be assailed by a number of Sauron’s guards and received many wounds. However, he would fight his way out of the city and eventually return to Rómenna, where the fruit was planted in secret and blessed by Amandil. When the new tree’s first leaf opened, Isildur was cured of his wounds he suffered in acquiring it.

Isildur would eventually escort the scion of Nimloth the Fair out of Númenor and he alongside his father and brother would flee to the shores of Middle-earth. There they founded four kingdoms.
Isildur and his brother Anárion eventually travelled up the Great River Anduin and founded Gondor. Isildur would specifically settle in Minas Ithil, where he planted the scion of Nimloth the Fair. He would rule the kingdom of Gondor jointly alongside his brother who settled in Minas Anor.
The White Tree of Isildur and Minas Ithil would eventually be destroyed by Sauron and his forces. But Isildur would escape with a seedling and flee with his wife and sons down the river.
Isildur would eventually join the Last Alliance led by his father Elendil and Gil-galad. When Sauron eventually joined the battle, he would cast down Elendil and Gil-galad, but with the shards of Elendil’s sword, Narsil, Isildur would cut the Ruling Ring from Sauron’s hand and take it as his own.
Isildur would refuse to destroy the Ruling Ring, instead keeping it for himself. He would eventually be assailed by a host of Orcs that lay in wait for him in the Misty Mountains as he headed south toward Eriador to take up his father’s realm. He would try to flee by using the Ruling Ring, which made him invisible, but the Orcs hunted him down and the Ring eventually betrayed him, slipping off his finger as he fled into the river. The Orcs then shot him full of arrows, killing him.
