Star Wars actor Ming-Na Wen recently provided some new details about the upcoming Disney+ show The Book of Boba Fett.
Wen spoke with Entertainment Weekly (EW) to promote the show claiming it is “more like a take on gangster movies” when comparing it to The Mandalorian.
Wen went on to provide details about the relationship between her character, Fennec Shand, and Boba Fett stating, “I feel like [Fennec and Boba] are bonded because both of them had near-death experiences.”
“They’re both bounty hunters, and they do adhere to a certain level of respect and honor. He saved her, and there’s a debt to be paid, and bounty hunters honor that debt,” she elaborated.

Wen would go on to reveal her relationship with Star Wars began when she first saw the original Star Wars in 1997.
She stated, “Those were my two worlds. And when you’re a young kid, you really don’t fit in either — especially being Chinese in a very white, suburban neighborhood. So when my friends and I went to see Star Wars, I was so immersed into this incredible folklore and sense of hope and being the hero of your own story.”
“There was just something really magical about that particular experience of seeing that film, to the point where the Force was my religion,” she elaborated.
Wen added, “I would pray to God, Buddha, and the Force. I still do when I get on a plane.”
The actress then related her own journey to playing a character in Star Wars to Luke Skywalker’s journey saying, “That dream and hope that I had when I was younger and wanting to be in a Star Wars project — that weird, fantastical nerd dream — it happened.”
“That’s the message I think [Star Wars] gets across: It can happen to anyone,” she explained. “It can happen to a farm boy on Tatooine, feeling like he has no hope whatsoever of getting off that planet.”

Wen then related it to Mulan, where she voiced the titular character in Disney’s 1998 animated film, “With Mulan, it’s the same thing: She felt like she would never amount to anything except disappointment, and in the end she becomes the hero and saves China.”
“It’s those stories that I really believe in,” she concluded.
The official synopsis for The Book of Boba Fett states, “‘The Book of Boba Fett,’ a thrilling Star Wars adventure teased in a surprise end-credit sequence following the Season 2 finale of ‘The Mandalorian,’ finds legendary bounty hunter Boba Fett and mercenary Fennec Shand navigating the galaxy’s underworld when they return to the sands of Tatooine to stake their claim on the territory once ruled by Jabba the Hutt and his crime syndicate.”
The show premieres on Disney+ on December 29th.
