Rumor: Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel To Appear In The Rumored Disney Plus Series Featuring Nick Fury

Captain Marvel

As reported by Geekosity’s website and scooper Mikey Sutton, Brie Larson is rumored to be in talks to join the Nick Fury Disney Plus series.

Sutton writes, “Sources indicate that Larson will either guest or cameo in an episode, probably the final installment as it is developed to lead into Captain Marvel 2.”

He then hints that his sources also detail that Larson’s Captain Marvel might not be the only Avenger to appear on the show. Sutton explains, “Larson might not be the only Avenger to appear on the show, too, insiders add.”

The rumor follows a separate rumor from Variety that indicated a Disney Plus series was in development starring Samuel L. Jackson. The rumor detailed that Jackson would reprise his role as the one-eyed clandestine ops commander, Nick Fury, from the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies.

Variety’s rumor regarding a Nick Fury show follows previous rumors that have dated to at least two years ago. Back in 2018, scooper Jeremy Conrad ran a rumor that claimed Nick Fury would be involved in an upcoming Disney Plus show.

He stated on his podcast, “One, this is not confirmed, just a rumor, like I said I want to confirm it more, it’s just a rumor. One may involve Nick Fury. So there might be a Nick Fury on the streaming service.”

However, following Conrad’s rumor, Slashfilm’s Peter Sciretta claimed that a Nick Fury series was not in the works.

He tweeted, “Yes, Disney is working on other Marvel Cinematic Universe shows for their streaming service. But No, from what I’ve heard it’s not a Nick Fury series as reported recently on those unreliable marvel fan sites. It’s something bigger and better. Something more.”

Albeit Conrad’s original claim was not that a series was in the works, but that a show involving Fury was.

As for what this series might be, Sutton believes it is the rumored Agents of S.W.O.R.D. series he scooped back in September 2019.

Not only does Sutton claim this series is the rumored Agents of S.W.O.R.D. series he scooped, but he believes it will also adapt the Secret Invasion storyline from Marvel Comics.

Sutton explains, “Whatever they decide to call it, the show will be linked to the Secret Invasion limited series from Marvel Comics, wherein evil Skrulls wage war on Earth and begin posing as various superheroes.”

Ms. Marvel

Sutton had previously scooped that he believes the Secret Invasion storyline will climax in Captain Marvel 2. Back in July he stated, “It’s no coincidence that the Skrulls appeared in both the Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home films. According to my sources, all three are set to form Captain Marvel 2.”

“It was on September 2019 that I scooped on Lords of the Longbox that Captain Marvel 2 would feature Veranke as the main villain in a loose adaptation of Secret Invasion. The plans for Captain Marvel 2 are evolving with Secret Invasion remaining its nucleus.”

He then added, “After the roots of Secret Invasion are planted on Disney+, Captain Marvel will be battling more than just one Skrull in her sequel. In fact, more than a Skrull but a Super-Skrull. “

Skrulls

Sutton isn’t alone in this belief. Fellow scooper Grace Randolph also believes the show will adapt the Secret Invasion storyline.

On her YouTube channel Randolph stated, “This is a Secret Invasion show. I’ve been telling you they are doing a Secret Invasion show on Disney Plus for awhile now and I’m telling you that this is it.”

She added, “I heard from my sources before they wanted to do a Secret Invasion show, and I’m hearing from my sources today that this is that show.”

If the rumor from Variety regarding this Disney Plus show featuring Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury is true it would be Jackson’s third appearance on a television show as Nick Fury.

He appeared as Fury in two episodes for ABC’s The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. television series.

Jackson appeared during the show’s first season in the 2013 episode “Beginning of the End.” He would later appear in the 2014 episode titled “0-8-4”.

As for Larson and Jackson, if she does end up appearing in this rumored Nick Fury show, it will be the sixth time the duo have shared screen time.

Larson and Jackson were both in the Captain Marvel film in 2019, and shared a scene during Tony Stark’s funeral in Avengers: Endgame that same year.

The two also appeared in Kong: Skull Island and Unicorn Store together as well as the animated film Farce of the Penguins.

While Larson has predominantly done films, she’s no stranger to TV. In 2014, she appeared in three episodes of Community as a character named Rachel. She shared scenes opposite the character Abed, played by Danny Pudi.
