New Rumor Claims Gal Gadot Will Return As Wonder Woman In James Gunn’s DCU Contrary To Reports
It’s doubtful the DCU will be a full-scale reboot, but a couple of returns by Extended Universe actors — such as Gal Gadot — are in doubt. The Amazons of Themyscira have a series on the way called Paradise Lost that’s described as along the lines of Game of Thrones. Wonder Woman’s role in that, however, is unverified.

Regardless, Gadot is optimistic about coming back to continue the saga of Diana Prince, and maybe make the discontinued Wonder Woman 3 without Patty Jenkins. To prove she is a priority for DC Studios, Gadot claimed she had a meeting with heads James Gunn and Peter Safran that went smoothly and bore only good news.
“I had a meeting with (DC Studios CEOs) Peter Safran and James Gunn, and they both told me that they’re going to develop a third Wonder Woman with me,” Gadot told USA Today (via ComicBookMovie). “They said, ‘You’re in the best hands, you’ve got nothing to worry about.’ Time will tell.” Indeed, time will have the last word.
These recent comments echo those made by Gadot early in August, when the actress told ComicBook.com, “I love portraying Wonder Woman. It’s so close to and dear to my heart. From what I heard from James and from Peter is that we’re gonna develop a Wonder Woman 3 together.”
Normally, an actor giving us a glowing update about their last meeting with execs would mean the door is open. But, the parent studio Warner Bros. hints otherwise. Their response to Gadot — and lingering reports that WW3 was back on — was to the contrary. Denying everything, they’re making it seem like the good news was premature and misleading.
James Gunn adds fuel to that fire when he confirms some actors are returning to the DCU while abstaining from mentioning Gadot’s name. In a recent exchange on Threads, Gunn revealed, “Xolo Maridueña will continue playing Blue Beetle in the DCU, as Viola Davis will Amanda Waller, and John Cena will Peacemaker.” Notice a few names are absent.
Granted, Gunn doesn’t have to name-drop everyone. He didn’t mention Freddie Stroma and the consensus is nobody will replace him as Vigilante. Not meriting a mention in a social media post doesn’t mean an actor is fired — just that their status is in limbo. However, Gunn is accused of uttering conflicting things about his castings in the last few months.
Plus he hasn’t said anything official about Gadot in that time, so it’s up to the press and the web to guess. Either he is leaving it up to us and Gadot to do the leg work or he hasn’t made up his mind. The latter is possible but it could be that the Heart of Stone star is telling the truth.
A recent X post by scooper MyTimeToShineHello is reaffirming Gadot’s status albeit through anonymous sources. The scoop account wrote, “Sources confirmed that despite reports saying otherwise, Gal Gadot will be back as Wonder Woman for James Gunn’s DCU.”
A lot of this year’s DC scoops turned out to be true, and this one gels with what the star has been confidently saying.
The mystery will linger as DC continues to be in flux in Hollywood, but if this rumor is true, it begs the question of why Gadot is staying and not Henry Cavill. With him and Ben Affleck both out, she remains the last one of the trinity standing — unless Gunn goes for the hat trick.
