Rumor: The Flash To Retcon Wonder Woman With Appearance of Chris Pine as Steve Trevor
While Wonder Woman 1984 seemed to be the end of Steve Trevor, and thus actor Chris Pine’s, role in the DC cinematic universe, a new rumor suggests that Diana’s first love will make a paradoxical appearance in the upcoming Ezra Miller led The Flash movie.
YouTuber and Rooster Teeth content partner Grace Randolph says Pine is rumored for the Andy Muschietti film, which will reportedly be loosely based on the Flashpoint storyline, in an appearance that will retcon Steve’s death as seen in the first Wonder Woman film.
“Warner Bros., I hear is considering bringing Steve Trevor back again via Flashpoint where The Flash saves him from the plane explosion just in the nick of time,” said Randolph.
She added that previsualizations, a step above storyboarding and a standard operating procedure for filmmaking these days, are being done to see what the scene might look like.
Unsurprisingly, Randolph’s report begs the question of why, exactly, Flash would save Trevor from his fate at the end of WW1. It’s possible Barry is just doing a favor for his friend and Justice League teammate Diana Prince, but knowing how his attempt to save his mother worked out for everybody, to do so he would probably require some heavy coaxing.
Something else the studio is discussing is the possibility of Barry stashing Steve on Themyscira, where his youth would be preserved to the modern era by the various magics of Diana’s home island.
While this would retcon his sacrificial fate in Wonder Woman, it doesn’t mean the core plot of WW84 would be altered, as Diana doesn’t explicitly wish that Steve would return from the dead, but rather that the two could have “more time” together.

Of course, that’s not to say that this proposed retcon wouldn’t raise some substantial issues with the sequel’s logic.
If Steve still physically existed in the world, why was it necessary to ‘Quantum Leap’ him into a random guy’s body? How could Diana, who clearly still loves Steve, remain ignorant to the fact that not only did he survive, but did so by living on her home isle, for over 60 years? Why wouldn’t Steve have brought any of this up to Diana upon their reunion in 1984?
Hopefully The Flash will both answer these questions and provide some solutions to tie-up some of WW84’s loose ends.
However, with the film already confirmed to be juggling two Batmen and rumored to feature even more DC cameos, one shouldn’t be shocked if the The Flash follows in the footsteps of Wonder Woman’s second outing by taking liberties and cutting corners
