The Batman: New Trademark Filed Reveals Batman Logo, Plus an Update on the Film’s Rating
We have new information regarding the design of the Bat Symbol connected to Matt Reeves’ The Batman and a quote indicating the movie is getting an R rating.
First, a trademark filing with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) leads us to believe a brand-new logo is being employed for a wide variety of tie-in merchandise.

Below is the logo.
There is a long arms-length list of products we could see this symbol on, notes Batman-News, including fanny packs and gardening gloves. Batman-News’ article adds we should expect to see these items hitting the market as The Batman’s release date looms closer.
The symbol, likely to be unveiled this weekend at DC FanDome along with a teaser, resembles the outline of the symbol on Robert Pattinson’s Bat costume in the camera test that broke the Internet.

A better look at it came later in the behind-the-scenes photos from the rainy cemetery location.
An interesting fan theory making the rounds suggests the symbol on the suit is made from pieces of the gun that killed Bruce’s parents. This hasn’t been verified but makes putting a logo with such a grim story behind it on all sorts of merchandise a little strange.
Speaking of strange and turning back to Pattinson, The Batman is a film not yet rated and it won’t be until we’re within weeks of its premiere. That won’t stop the speculation or Pattinson letting things slip.
A quote from one of his interviews surfaced and the star sounds like he’s saying Reeves and himself are shooting for an R rating. Pattinson said an R would free him up to push Batman into some crazy territory.
Speaking with Empire Magazine, Pattinson said, “The only thing that’s more complicated is the rating. As soon as you make something an R-Rated movie, you’re freed up to do so much stuff.”
“In terms of the character itself, I want to push it as far as it possibly can go. And I think Matt Reeves does as well. You can do crazy stuff with that part,” he added.
Scooper Daniel Richtman caught wind of this. He didn’t confirm or debunk the comments but did tweet “we’ll see” and how interesting it’d be if The Batman is slapped with the same rating as Joker.
Richtman also may know something we don’t. In an interesting aside, he mentioned The Suicide Squad will have an R rating too – something that hasn’t been officially verified. “We’ll see,” indeed.

Warner Bros. might sacrifice the teen & kid demo, and families, if they make The Batman crazy and rated R. Joker, however, proves a wild DC movie geared at adults can be a success.
In the end, it may hinge on what the MPAA requests Reeves cut out and what AT&T demands. Lately, they show signs of putting business first and could push Warner into making the most money possible with the biggest audience.
The Batman will be swinging back into production this September in the confines of a studio. Proper COVID precautions are reportedly going to be taken, similar to filming on Jurassic World: Dominion.
The film’s release is still set for October of next year.
