New Rumor Claims To Reveal The Cast For HBO Max’s Green Lantern Series Includes Sinestro And Carol Ferris

Boardwalk Empire actor Michael Kenneth Williams is rumored for the part of Sinestro in the Green Lantern series coming to HBO Max.

This rumor, picked up by Cosmic Book News, comes from 4chan and Reddit. Grains of salt aside, CBN notes the timing of this casting leak is convenient with DC FanDome coming up and the layoffs taking place all over WarnerMedia, including at DC Comics and DC Universe.

Williams is also known for small roles in 12 Years a Slave, The Purge: Anarchy, and the recent remakes of RoboCop and The Gambler (both 2014). He gained recognition for starring in The Wire and Boardwalk Empire. Currently, he costars with Jurnee Smollett in Lovecraft Country.

If cast, he steps in the shoes of Mark Strong who played Sinestro in the 2011 Green Lantern flim. Strong’s lastest dive into comic book movies had him playing Dr. Sivana in Shazam!. Not that it matters, the HBO Max series will take place on another Earth and timeline in the Multiverse.

The same leak says James Marsden is being considered for Hal Jordan and Linda Cardellini is eyed for the part of Carol Ferris – last played in live-action by Blake Lively (unless you count Christina Wren’s Major Carrie Farris in Man of Steel).

Marsden starred this year in Sonic the Hedgehog and may forever be recognized for portraying Cyclops in Fox’s X-Men films. Cardellini is the star of Freaks and Geeks and Velma in the Scooby-Doo movies. Most recently she played Hawkeye’s wife in Avengers: Endgame.

The last bit of casting involves Jovan Adepo (HBO’s Watchmen). He is mentioned in reference to John Stewart, slated to be one of the Lanterns of Sector 2814 in the series.

Adepo played young Will Reeves/Hooded Justice in Watchmen whom the show revealed to be Black and gay. Louis Gossett, Jr., played the older, retired Reeves.

HBO Max’s Green Lantern will be live-action and is confirmed as taking place in different timelines – past and present – on Earth as well as in space.

Sinestro should have his yellow ring and already fallen out with the Corps. His origin will reportedly be told in flashbacks. There may also be an adaptation of the Sinestro Corps War storyline at some point.

At first, it was suspected John Stewart and Hal Jordan would be substituted by Geoff Johns creations Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz (who Doom Patrol’s Diane Guerrero expressed a desire to play).

It was also thought Jordan and Stewart were being saved for the movie and could show up in the series later on as legacies.

It’s unclear if a film is still happening. Scooper Mikey Sutton alleged that Jordan and Stewart not only would be the focus of the series but, additionally, Johns’ pet-project feature film – Green Lantern Corps was being shelved.
