The release date for Gotham Knights has been moved up. Not only that, but Warner Bros. Games also revealed that Harley Quinn and Clayface will play a significant role in the story.

A new trailer debuted as part of Gamescom Opening Night Live 2022, with the new ‘Villains Trailer’ highlighting some of the other villains players will be up against.

While the Court of Owls, Mr. Freeze, and the Penguin were known to be in the game, the trailer shows us Harley Quinn has checked in, and the game will also feature Clayface. Even from the brief look, we’re able to glean a little more information.

Renee Montoya, former detective and now Captain, knows that Gotham won’t stand a chance with Batman gone and so many villains making moves. She calls on the remaining Bat Family to help, and it appears she has a more direct relationship than Commissioner Gordon had with Batman given she’s speaking to the Gotham Knights team while they are in their civilian clothes.

While Harley Quinn is initially shown in a prison and still nutty as a fruitcake, she’s later shown seemingly acting as some kind of motivational speaker. “An Evening With Dr. Q” is almost certainly part of some terrible machination, though it’s surprising to see so many avoiding any form of caution around her.

That being said, she soon summons an armed thug to deal with Batgirl who is snooping around back stage. It may be that she either has a “captive audience” in the literal sense, or that she’s speaking to her fellow inmates and psychos.

Meanwhile, Clayface is shown taking advantage of his unique biology to warp and twist his body. He even seems to be able to create smaller clones of himself to harass the player.

At one point we see the Bat Family looking at a hologram of a DNA sample, seemingly taken from Clayface’s body that was being stored in a small canister, unless the two scenes are different. Due to the sickly and mottled colors of the hologram, combined with Clayface being far more liquefied than past appearances, it may be that Clayface’s DNA and body is breaking down.

It would explain why he is hiding in the sewers, or using them to enter somewhere, rather than using his more subtle shape-shifting.

While previously slated for October 25th, the game’s release date was also revealed to be moved up to October 21st, but still for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Those who pre-order can also get their hands on the the 233 Kustom Batcycle Skin.

Previously, Creative Director Patrick Redding insisted The Joker wouldn’t be appearing, nor would there be a bait-and-switch with Batman’s death.
