One of the original stars of the 2005 Constatine film has given us our first hint that a sequel to the Keanu Reeves-led adaptation of the DC Comics character is “in the works”.
Peter Stormare, who played the barefoot Devil in a white suit in the original film, shared a still from the movie of himself giving plaudits to his portrayal of the Prince of Darkness.
He filled in the caption with only three words: “Sequel In The Works.” Save for that fact that Stormare, a supporting player, is the only one coming forward with this news, that caption sounds pretty official.

Some fans have taken Stormare’s caption at face value, while certain others are skeptical that this is nothing more than wishful thinking on Stormare’s part, though it’s hard to believe he would go to the trouble of this post without hearing something first.
Director Francis Lawrence and star Keanu Reeves aren’t talking yet beyond expressions of zeal at the idea of doing another one.
Most recently, the two gathered with producer Akiva Goldsman for a 15-year anniversary panel during Comic-Con@Home to say they would make the sequel in a heartbeat.
If Stormare’s claim is accurate, we can safely bet that Reeves, Lawrence and the rest of the film’s main team will be returning, and they’ll likely go with a hard R rating since that’s selling a lot better today after, especially after the successes of similarly-rated comic book films such as Deadpool and Logan.
Keanu was rumored for a Constantine reboot under the guidance of Justice League Dark’s new caretaker, JJ Abrams. The Rise of Skywalker director is developing several spinoffs of JLD for HBO Max and is most likely going to take the sorcerer in a different direction.
John Constatine is also rumored to be play a part in Netflix’s Sandman, based on Neil Gaiman’s Vertigo comic, though neither Reeves nor Matt Ryan, who portrays the DCU’s mos troublesome magician in the CWVerse and DC Animated series, are expected to appear in the role.
Aside from his role in Constantine, Peter Stormare is a character actor of much renown, having appeared in installments of both the Jurassic Park and John Wick film franchises, as well as in numerous voice acting roles, including parts as Godbrand in Netflix’s Castlevania and Arach Jalaal in Bungie’s Destiny video game series.
He’s also recognizable for playing the head nihilist in The Big Lebowski and had a guest-starring role on Arrow as Werner Zytle, the successor of Count Vertigo.
