Maisie Williams, perhaps best known for her role as Arya Stark in Game of Thrones, recently admitted to showing off her boobs to land a role during an audition for the Disney-backed FX series Pistol.

As the name may suggest, Pistol is an upcoming series directed by Trainspotting and Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle, and is based on the history of famous British band the Sex Pistols — more specifically on the memoir written by band guitarist and co-founder Steve Jones.

In a recent interview with British GQ, Maisie Williams admitted that she was somewhat reluctant to play punk rock fashion icon Pamela Rooke, also known as Jordan, because she was made aware that the role required her to be nude often.

Williams detailed she was hesitant “just because of everything that happens in the industry and all the horror stories I’ve heard…I want to be in this show because I’m the best person to do this, not because I’m the only girl who’ll take her top off.”

Williams’ agent forwarded the Game of Thrones star a clarification from Boyle that read, “Jordan was a political statement,” and clarified that the punk rock icon’s “entire ethos was turning the male gaze in on itself, and it was overtly sexual in a way that made other people feel ashamed.”

This reassurance from Boyle reportedly worked and The New Mutants actress noted, “If I take my top off, I want to make other people feel uncomfortable.”

While making people uncomfortable may have been Williams’ main train of thought for choosing to take the role, regardless of the nudity requirements, director Danny Boyle was utterly impressed by her determination during the audition.

British GQ reports that for the actress’ second audition for the role of Jordan, Williams “joined a Zoom call with Boyle wearing a sheer KNWLS top with no bra underneath. She’d started that journey to embodying Jordan; Boyle seemed impressed by how greatly she’d leaned into the character.”

“And it worked out. I got the part,” Williams said. She would later add, “It was a lot of pressure, but honestly, I never needed to feel any type of way. Jordan was never confrontational. She just knew what was what, and if things weren’t right, she’d say.”

Pistol director Danny Boyle briefly touched on on the Game of Thrones actress landing the role in Pistol, asserting, “It was the perfect opportunity for [Maisie Williams] to own a big character. She’s a great realistic actor, but Jordan [rejects] the very idea of everyday life.”

“Maisie’s a bit like that herself. In a quieter, sweeter way, there’s a touch of Oscar Wilde about her, leading an awkward, self-conscious nation into being braver about sexuality, sensuality, gender, beauty…” Boyle concluded.

John Lydon, legendary rock star and Sex Pistols lead singer, actually opposed to take part in the production of Danny Boyle’s Pistol. More specifically, Lydon refused to allow any of the band’s iconic discography to be used in the upcoming FX series.

Lydon’s refusal to allow Sex Pistols music to be on the show led to bandmates Steve Jones and Paul Cook to file a lawsuit against the lead singer, claiming that an agreement from 1998 allows them to license their music on a majority rule basis.

Lawsuit aside, Lydon has been very vocal about his disapproval of Pistol, describing it as “the most disrespectful s—t I’ve ever had to endure,” and explaining that he also does not consent to him being played by an actor on the upcoming series without consulting him.

“I mean, they went to the point to hire an actor to play me but what’s the actor working on?” the legendary singer pondered. “Certainly not my character. It can’t go anywhere else [but court].”

He further asserted, “Sorry, you think you can do this, like walk all over me — it isn’t going to happen. Not without a huge, enormous f—ing fight. I’m Johnny, you know, and when you interfere with my business you’re going to get the bitter end of my business as a result.”

“It’s a disgrace… If you put me in a corner like a rat, I’m going to go for your throat. I’m up against some corporations that just want to take over,” Lydon concluded.
